May 24
The cruise ship sailed on the sea. Alexander Smith could see his future house, the house that he would spend a decade in. He also saw the lovely beach and all the happy children. Alex knew he would like long beach. After he smelt the lovely, fresh air, Alex heard the stomping of footsteps on the deck. They had arrived. Two men appeared on the entrance to the cabin and knocked on the door.
“Sir, we have landed. You may wish to depart” said the first man.
Alex sighed. He had spent 6 nights in his cosy cabin. It had 2 rows of lights and a luxury en-suite. The bedroom contained a wardrobe and a large, modern lamp. Then there was the silk-white duvet, even looking at it made you feel so warm and enlightened. It felt so nice in the cabin that it was very hard to leave. “Sir, Are you ready?” said the first man again.
Alex muttered a curse before he opened the door. “I’m ready” he replied.
Both men lead him to the front deck. “Here is the port; we hope you had a nice trip”.
Alex stared at them for a few minutes before nodding and continuing his journey down the steps. At last, he arrived at long beach. It was nothing quite like Southampton. The sun shined brightly and the beautiful tides splashed on the beach. Alex suddenly had the urge to go straight to his new house. All the suitcases were pushed into a small bag rack then were sorted out into the alphabet. As Alex strolled to the set of bag racks on letter S, he accidentally bumped into a very old man.
“Could you spare any change?” he asked pleadingly.
Alex knew about some beggars there. They were beaten up and put in prison. Because he took pity on the man, Alex gave the man a few bucks he exchanged in the cash machine. Strangely, the man also offered him something as well. It wasn’t solid, but a sign. “The last five letters are q-u-i-s-t.” He answered with an agonizing cough. Alex was puzzled by the comment. What was the message? What was so special about quist? The beggar stared at Alex for a while before he said “Aren’t you going to section S now?”
As Alex walked towards section S, he looked back and the beggar vanished. For some reason, he kept thinking about the man. Something was odd about him. The beggar had a large, grey beard with a straw sombrero. His clothing style also seemed to be around the early 1900s. While Alex thought about it, he tripped on a bright red bag. In front of him stood another man dressed in a light blue shirt and a golden badge, “May I help you with your luggage?”
Alex stared at the man puzzlingly until he realized. “Oh yeah” He replied.
“As a level 10 passenger, the highest level, I am authorized to take care of you until you are satisfied” The man observed him quietly. Alex still looked at him as silently as he could. The man sighed. “I will be your security guard”
“So… do I have to pay you?” Alex said in shock.
The man laughed “Nah, your parents are already paying me to look after you.”
Alex stood up. His security guard had thick green eyes, blond, curly hair and looked quite young. He might be in his mid 20’s.
Suddenly, the man laughed, “My apologies, I haven’t introduced himself. My name is Ethan, Ethan Jackson.” He swung his small bag of silver coins. “So, we better get to your house.” Ethan shouted as he beckoned Alex to follow him. While following Ethan, Alex spotted his own house.
“Is that mine?” he asked.
“Yea let me give you a tour. But first, here’s the key. You can do the honours of opening your own house.”
A while later, all his luggage was in the house. Alex made his way to his computer and turned it on.
>Computer, search for the nearest school – He typed.
>Identification error
“Identification error?” asked Alex. Ethan looked at the computer confusingly.
>Computer, Explain identification error.
Alex, bewildered by the error, tried to take it away. Unfortunately, he couldn’t erase it.
>ERROR ERROR Hacker detected Virus imminent
“Hacker?” Alex asked.
>Computer, follow where the hacker is transmitting the virus.
>Virus unknown
>Computer, go to lockdown mode.
> V1e5n3t8r2i49lo
“Ethan!” Alex shouted.
“What?” Ethan responded.
Alex suddenly knew what it was. “If we erase the numbers and add quist in-“
“Quist? What’s that got to do with quist?” Ethan said.
“Be quiet. Now, if we do that, we get the word ventriloquist.” Alex exclaimed.
“Wait, is it talking about the legend?” Ethan added.
Alex looked at him puzzlingly. He never knew about a legend which includes the word ventriloquist. Nor would he ever know if he never came here.
Ethan shook his head sadly. His face surprisingly seemed older. “What’s the legend?” Alex curiously asked, even if he knew it wouldn’t help him.
Ethan quickly went into a rage. “Why do you care Alex?!?” He cried “This Damn freakin’ horseplay is going to drive us nuts!”
“I think we already are.”
“Shut up!!!” Ethan bellowed.
“Well, I wouldn’t ask this bloody question if you would tell me the crappy legend!” Alex knew he shouldn’t have said it but he burst the words out.
”Oh crud!”Ethan said as he stormed out of the room. As he stomped out, he shouted. Alex felt something he hadn’t felt in years, guilt. “Ethan, oh shoot” he sighed. He stood there quietly. After a while, he heard a hint of blissful anger. “Ethan, I’m sorry. I knew how you felt about it.” Alex softly said as he opened the door to the storage room.
“It’s OK Alex, It’s just. It happened before.” Ethan said. Alex cocked his head. “The legend?”
“Yes, It happened once before, in 1999” Ethan grunted as Alex helped him up. “When I was fifteen, I was in a party. You know, the normal dancing, drinking. Just then, I heard a crack in the TV, it got hacked. Then, I saw it.”
Alex looked at him pleadingly. “Who, who?”Alex said. Ethan whispered “Him.”

The Hercules Baboon Spider

I crouch as silent as night,
I overlook the city,
The city where I lost my friend,
My heart burned with anger the more I think,
They don’t know I exist,
I don’t know if I exist,
My cautious head turned back slightly,
My species on the brink of extinction,
They took everything,
Our land, Our home, Our people, Our sanity, Our liberty,
How dare they call themselves protectors of nature?
Protectors should be humble,
I inhale; emotions touch my rigid heart,
I exhale; Fire clings to my soft heart,
I will have my revenge, They will not stand against me,
I will not tolerate, They will not tolerate,
They made my friend perish,
The only one that I cherish,
All shall see me, all shall fear me,
I will cause discomfort to comfort my own kind,
This is the point of turning,
I am putting our names into existence,
This is retaliation,
This is vengeance,
This is revenge.

I threw the phone on the floor and tumbled back. “Hey! Why did you throw it? The phones priceless!”I slowly approached the rusty phone and answered with a small whimper. “You are, still one the mission aren’t you Oscar.E.Lott?” I picked up the phone and afterwards replied. “Err, yeah…” Commander Leads fell silent for a bit then said “That’s good, now head for the 8th island, we’ll be watching your progress with the FWR-126… you didn’t think the vessel would disappear forever?” I managed to put on a smile before falling in anger… “Come on, you’re not angry with me still are you? Never mind, just carry on… See you later” As I put the transceiver-like phone in the cotton bag, I followed the warm water until I got to the edge. It was quite a long journey. Every single tree looked the same as the other.
While I was lazily walking around, the same growling appeared again. I turned quickly before stumbling down a big hill on the side. The next thing I knew, I was surrounded by trees. It was dark. Too dark to see anything 5 more meters away. I tried to navigate through the unilluminated forest just before the growl appeared before me. The ground shook as I lifted the metal piece. I could just see the sharp teeth of the monstrous creature. Its slick dagger-like teeth pierced into one of the trees right after I dodged to the side. The creature suddenly lunged to me swiping its dangerous claws at my whole body. I dodged continuously trying to keep my energy level high. Its eyes glared at me like a jaguar ready to unleash its full attack. My mind was quickly dizzied by its incredible melee combat. At the last minute, it struck my right arm then knocked me out. I only had a hazed view of an arrow striking on the left teeth of the creature…
I opened my eyes thinking how much time had passed. The creature was nowhere to be seen. Light pierced through the bushy trees circling the whole forest. My right arm felt tingly just as I turned around to see a big bandage wrapped around it. I didn’t know who would do this, more or less what. I got up, seeing the crusty edge of the isle and the fluffy cloud-roped bridge a kilometre away. The trees around me seemed to arch over a small pathway. It was definitely like they wanted me to follow the ridged path. I cautiously stepped forward watching my dusty shoes every second. My conscious had an unsure feeling about it while I kept walking, getting faster at every pace. The glittering cloud bridge came closer and closer. I started feeling relief for once just before I fell down a massive hole covered in a million brown sticks and dark green leaves. I landed in a pond of cold water with weeds as long as a pencil. The strange weeds covered my whole face making it almost impossible to see. My right arm felt paralyzed as I tried to take all the weeds off. The wet water frizzled the bandage until it fortunately, came off. There, was a large mark where the creature struck me. I managed to lift it up and place it on the side of the water-filled pond. The bottom of the hole looked like a small camp, two tents and a small campfire. While deciding to hide under the water, the velvet doors of one of the tents swayed up. Someone was coming…

sky isles part2

Posted by John on June 16, 2015 in My Stories |

While deciding to make a small camp next to the river, I scavenged through my bag trying to find something useful. After throwing out an orange flashlight, a box of scrap metal and a 4 by 4 Rubik cube, I found a small, old book lying at the very bottom of the bag. Just as I lifted it up, a small fountain pen fell out. I picked up the pen and opened the book. Strangely, this book had no writing on. I flicked through every section, every page, every line but none had any writing. As it was in my bag, I made it useful by writing a few sentences, starting off with…

Dear Diary, January 1st 8015AD
As my mission to collect the scared key, I have prepared to start on the sky isles. Coincidentally, the scared key is the only thing which could activate the neutron status activator, a weapon powerful enough to release the gravitational pull of our dear neighbour, the Andromeda galaxy. If the pull of the Andromeda gets stronger, it will ultimately destroy most of earth and its surroundings. Everyone thought that it would be easy to get the key. The only problem was that no one over the age of 20 could enter and only the most skilled could survive. That is why I, have been sent.

While I was writing, I noticed the sun setting in the distance. I decided it was time to take cover in my camp. It was a tight squeeze but enough for a good rest. As I was resting, a few thoughts swung into my head. I couldn’t sleep. Noting could make me so I leaped out of the tent and searched for some firewood to take my mind of it. The trees swayed as I picked up a few sticks. Mud squelched while I walked slowly in the woods. Suddenly, I heard something, sort of a growl. I couldn’t identify what it was. Just before I continued, I heard it again, this time more viciously. I knew that something was there. Something was definitely lurking in the darkness. I started to walk quicker and quicker. Every step I took, the creature took 10. I sped through the forest holding the firewood as hard as I could. It came closer and closer until I could actually smell its fiery breath. I quickly stopped and turned around, nothing was there. As I was near to the camp I quickly walked there and placed the firewood down. Whatever was in the forest was gone. I started a fire and grabbed a few fish in the river to cook. While I was making a small meal, I started searching through the bag to see the piece of metal which saved me twice on the vessel. I held the piece of metal and walked straight up to the nearest tree. I felt something in my arms, something that I had the power to do. Suddenly, I noticed my hand spinning the metal around. By looking at it, I knew what it was. I struck the tree as hard as I could, if I did not succeed in knocking it down, I tried again, and again, and again. The next thing I knew was that the sun had just risen on the east. I turned around to see a burnt fish for breakfast. Not bad for the first day.
I packed up and quickly set off to avoid any distractions. Just after I started to walk to the edge of the island, I heard a small beep in my bag. It sounded like… a PHONE!!! I looked quickly through my bag until I found a small container. Inside that container was a phone-like piece of metal. After I pressed the button, I heard a familiar voice. “um hello? Hey answer the phone already!”
“commander Leads?!?”

A flicker of light burst around the sky following a gigantic, spectacular explosion spreading around the whole observable sky. There appeared a large, pizza-shaped island covered in beautiful trees and sweet, emerald-slick grass. Although the sky island was as magnificent as a rainbow hummingbird, it emitted bright light which then separated it into 8 hex-shaped islands. The first seven surrounded a particular island which had a circle of stone figures. This circle strangely had a small pillar with a golden, floating key on top. “Like it kiddo? Don’t worry, you’ll soon be stepping on the soft grass sooner or later” replied commander leads with a surprising grin. As he slithered through a few buttons on the command pad with his hand, he grabbed a glittering computer card from his right pocket. Commander leads wore a military suit with a green rust sack and a pair of slick gloves. He had short, sticky brown hair and a stern looking face. Just before he closed the first door, I carefully approached him and tapped his left shoulder. “Yeah what?” he answered. At first, I mistakenly whimpered and closed my eyes. Then I replied saying “um… is there, any other option… then for me to go?” Commander leads turned his head facing towards me and yelled in anger. “You are the only trained soldier which is under the age of 20!” I collapsed back trying to crawl away from him but he clutched my sleeve and hurled me over his left shoulder. Leads quickly pressed the alarm activation and held me captive. Despite my disadvantage of how older he was compared to me, I kicked his leg and threw him over my whole body. A few soldiers were startled at what they saw so I took the opportunity to leap into the corridor and zoom out of sight. They were running from both ends of the corridor before I could even take another breath. Each side was a shadow approaching very quickly to my position. I quickly climbed onto the pipes on top of the ground and swung into the silver vents. Luckily, I reached just before anyone spotted me. A few minutes later, I carefully crawled through the vents until I reached the escape pads. Considering the fact that I never knew where I was going, I quickly landed on the floor and sneaked near the pods. All was going well until a soldier quickly spotted my position. “I’ve found him!” he shouted just before I dumped him in a barrel. 5 men ran into the escape pad and lifted their guns. “You’re surrounded, give yourselves up!” he exclaimed with an enthusiastic sneer. I put my hands up to distract them as I, a few seconds later, flipped up a piece of metal and held it like a weapon. The leader stared at the piece of metal then burst into laughter. “ Really?” he said. I tried to look as serious as possible. He then turned at me and pointed the gun. He then fired. Just before it hit me, I waved the piece of metal around and luckily reflected the bullet back into the gun. Suddenly, it burst into flames creating a large fire. I scrambled into one of the escape pods and clicked the main engine switch. The vessel (FWR-126) started racing down back to the earth. I struggled to activate the side and back but finally did it. Although I completed the engine activation process, the ship was falling quickly. I tried to deactivate the connection but it didn’t move an inch. 5 seconds before the gravitational pull gets stronger. I pulled with all my strength but it didn’t move. I started to feel the pull of Earth in my body. I had to do it, no matter how risky so I took the piece of metal and smashed it into the controls panel. This created a mass jet boost which, not only detached the pod from the vessel but blasted it to who knows. Wait, who knows? I quickly realized that I was not just boosting to anywhere, I was heading for the sky isles. The controls were smashed so I opened the window and jumped out. Fortunately, I landed in a soft pile of leaves above a warm stream headed for the far sides. After I got up from the landing, I heard a gigantic explosion coming from the other side of the island. At least I made it. Just another big adventure ahead.

The old mansion

Just looking at the old mansion up at the hill struck fear down their spines. Number 13 Holescart Street it was built on. No one ever wanted to buy it, even with the price of £2. We lived right next to the house, staring at it every day from school. Looking at it as it was a ghost. Nothing could erase it from our minds. Not even a memory erasing gas. So, back to the story. My sister, Katie, swooped in from the kitchen holding a cup of orange juice and jumped onto the sofa. I quickly took the TV remote and turned it on before Katie could even look at it. Right in front of us was breaking news from the TV. We were dying to know what it was so we turned the volume on to 45. “Breaking news! The old mansion is now classed as a paranormal place, two people from ‘Parabusters’ claimed that they have seen a ghost. Their camera crew didn’t manage to escape and got killed. Many people say that he was killed by a lingering ghost”. I carefully switched the TV to channel 61. “PARABUSTERS! Today, we are going to look at a spooky mansion in Holecart Street. Now, hold on to your popcorn, where going in… So, right now we are passing the doorway… Argh! Stop the camera! Stop the camera!!!…….” The screen turned multicoloured and made a beeping sound. I turned to look at Katie. She froze. Opened her mouth and screamed.”AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!” she shouted as loud as she could. “Mum! The man died!”She screamed. “Tom! Why would you do this to your sister? You know she’s only 7!”My mum said. “I wanted to hear the news!” I answered. “Well don’t bring her! Common sense Tom!”

I lamely walked out of the living room. Seriously, ghosts, who would think that was real. I know what you’re thinking. What kind of goofball would think ghosts are not real in a title like this? Well, to be honest, I’m already a goofball. Back to the story, when I sat on my lame chair near my lame desk, I thought about the news. I thought about what would happen. I searched on the internet to see some weaknesses of ghosts. By doing that, I saw if you spray water on some electric sources, it would strike the ghost and kill it. Quickly, I grabbed my plastic water gun and filled it downstairs on the kitchen sink. This was war.

Nothing was better than a nice, cool drink and a spot on the comfy sofa. But that was not going to happen today, maybe someday, but definitely not today. Because something was going to happen, something big and not what you would want to do. And that, my friend, will be shown now but still as a preview.
